New movie SOBER all shot in Leeds

Sober the new comedy film (due out soon) starring Dean Smith and Tom Gibbons – and directed by Matthew Cooper was pretty much entirely shot in Leeds – the city where much of the film takes place is almost a character in the film itself.

Here, director Matthew Cooper, outlines some of the locations that you can see in Sober.

Sober was written to take place in Leeds – we even start with a Sopranos style title sequence in which see Dean’s character travels into the city centre for work.

The city centre features heavily and Leeds General Infirmary is where Dean’s character’s girlfriend Sas, played by Alicia Ambrose-Bayly, gives birth to their first child – which kind of kick starts the plot of the film.

Also featured (and this is spoiler free) is Elland Road – The Headrow – Briggate – and down around The Call’s (where Dean’s character works).

Sober’s plot revolves around drinking, and featured boozers include The Three Legs – and East Leeds Snooker Centre on Pendas Way has a few key scenes set inside (cast pictured with the owner of the club, Julie).

In the film, you’ll see lots of Leeds landmarks – and the work of Burley Banksy is in there too.

So, if you’re from Leeds – or an exiled Lioner – you’ll have plenty to feast your eyes on when  you get to see Sober.

Sober (2023) is the new comedy film set in Leeds and starring Tom Gibbons (Funny Cow) and Dean Smith (Waterloo Road / Still Open all Hours).
